Night lenses, also known as orthokeratology or ortho-k lenses, are custom-fitted rigid gas-permeable contact lenses worn during sleep. They temporarily reshape the cornea, enabling clear vision during the day without glasses or other contact lenses. At City Optik Munich , we support you with years of fitting experience and precise measurement technology.
Whether during sports, at work, or in your free time: Night lenses enable clear vision during the day without glasses or contact lenses. For more freedom in your everyday life.
One day. Many possibilities.
See clearly. Until late into the night.

Night lenses are worn during sleep and gently reshape the cornea.
Night lenses are specially fitted, rigid gas-permeable contact lenses worn during sleep. Their unique geometry gently, precisely, and temporarily alters the shape of the cornea. This changes the eye's refractive power, allowing for clear vision during the day without glasses or contact lenses. The effect is not permanent: once the night lenses are no longer worn, the cornea gradually returns to its original shape.
Many users notice a significant improvement in their visual acuity after just the first night. Typically, around -2.00 diopters are corrected after the first night. How quickly visual acuity improves depends on factors such as the initial refractive error, corneal shape, and the individual response of the eye. Vision often stabilizes within a few days. For more complex corrections, we monitor and optimize the progress, if necessary, for up to four weeks.
Yes.With careful fitting, consistent hygiene, and regular checkups, orthokeratology lenses are considered a proven form of contact lens care. Crucially, the lenses must fit the eyes precisely and the cornea must be checked regularly. As with all contact lenses, irritation or infection can occur if they are used incorrectly, if hygiene is lacking, or if they are worn for too long despite discomfort. Therefore, thorough instruction, suitable care products, and regular follow-up appointments are always part of our orthokeratology care.
Yes, orthokeratology lenses can also be an interesting option for children. They allow for daytime vision without glasses or contact lenses and are also used in myopia management. Studies show that orthokeratology can reduce the progression of axial elongation in suitable children. However, suitable eyes, reliable hygiene, and regular checkups are crucial. Therefore, in children, we monitor not only their current visual acuity but also—depending on the situation—the development of the eye's axial length.
The effect of orthokeratology contact lenses doesn't disappear suddenly. If you skip a night, your vision may still be very good the next day, or it may already be somewhat diminished – this varies from person to person. After several nights without orthokeratology lenses, the effect gradually weakens, and the original nearsightedness becomes noticeable again. In such situations, a suitable pair of spare glasses is advisable.
Yes. One of the major advantages of orthokeratology is that the effect is generally reversible. If you stop wearing the lenses, the cornea gradually returns to its original shape, and the original refractive error becomes visible again. The time it takes for this regression varies from person to person. If you wish to discontinue use permanently or switch to a different treatment, we will monitor the regression process with appropriate checkups as needed.
